Great Family Day Out!

Spent a brilliant day with my family yesterday. We visited some local museums, The Roald Dahl Museum and Tring Natural History Museum, both were extremely impressive and great fun!
I've always been a fan of Roald Dahl and wanted to go to the museum but Vels has never been interested in any of his books- until now. They have covered a project on Charlie and The chocolate Factory in her class and ever since has been making her way through our local library's collection of his stories. Which is great for me as I get to read them to her.
Tring Museum was a fab as ever. We took Vels there a couple of years ago but she didn't seem too impressed. This time was very different she loved seeing all the animals. So we did some sketches together, it was quite busy ( half term of course) and managed to squeeze ourselves in by the bears for ten or so minutes then moved upstairs where it was quieter.

Happy Shoes!

Some beautiful shoes designed by the lovely Velvette. Vel has autism and finds it extremely difficult when it comes to communication. She has no trouble expressing her thoughts and feelings on paper and any other crafty activity though. Vel has drawn every day since a tiny tot and never stops amazing us with her talent. Vel was two and we visited the zoo. When we came back we asked if she'd liked it, Vel never said a word but drew a wonderful lion with a big happy face- who needs words!

Introducing Beryl

At last, some pics of Beryl! She has proved to be a real hit with Vel who takes her everywhere.

Big and Small

Hi, haven't posted for ages due to Vels going back to school and family holiday in the lakes which was lush.
Basically having too much fun!
One thing we got up to in the summer hols was making some clay figures. Vel really wanted to make some Big and Small ones, as she LOVES em. Can't blame her they are the best thing on kids tv!
We made these on a sunny afternoon, Vel did the Big to the right all on her little own- isn't she a clever bunny!

Sketch for today

Couldn't resist doing a little garden sketch.

Out in the garden

Spent some time on the garden this week. At last we sorted the back garden out, it needed it! Since newlyweds sixteen years ago we have made things up from old stuff. This is our latest addition, which we finished today!

John Howard's Statue

Thought I'd post this sketch that I did on a drawing walk around Bedford. It was a lovely day spent in the town centre with a group of other local artists and a guide from the tourist information office. Ilove history and found it fascinating to learn more about the place.
This is a corner of the base of John Howards Statue in the square.
John Howard was a prison reformer and these cherubs peering through a devilish art nouveau mask make up a face and reflect some of Howard's believes that there is good found in everyone.
By Sir Alfred Gilbert who designed Eros, Piccadilly Circus, it is so beautiful! I've been pass it dozens of times and never noticed the cherubs!

Little Rabbit Toy

Well here is Little Rabbit! I had some furry fabric from an old coat that I'd stashed away, that would have been perfect! But alas could not find it! So had to make do with this fluffier one as my daughter Velvette couldn't wait until I had foraged around for something similar.

Rocket Racoon

Haven't given this little chap a name yet. Don't worry I will!

The high flying Figaro!

New illustration that I might use as a greeting card cos he is quite sweet in my humble opinion. You just can't keep this little fella off of the swings at the park, he'd be there all day if you let him!

Emie the kitten in colour

Thought I'd play around with different colours for Emie today.
